Founded in 1999 through the Council of Churches, Ambassadors for Children began as a foster parent recruitment agency. Our mission continues as we provide services and support to abused and neglected children, meeting practical needs while instilling value and hope.
Children often come into foster care having been abused or neglected with little to no clothing or personal belongings, and carrying significant emotional burdens. The children we serve have experienced unthinkable traumas and multiple losses.
Ambassadors for Children unites our community to care for these children and make a significant local impact through a variety of programs with new clothing, comfort bags, blankets, hygiene items, free tutoring, beds, self-esteem building activities, and formal prom attire. When a child receives our services and support, the message is clear, “You are valuable, you are special and someone cares.”
We have served over 9,000 local children to date, and the needs continue to grow!
Ambassadors for Children serves approximately 1,000 abused and neglected children in Greene County annually. Services were expanded to
Christian and Taney counties in 2013, allowing us to serve an additional 927
children, including those in foster care and at immediate risk.
Our community has approximately 800 children in foster care on any given day, the 3rd highest rank in Missouri.
Each one has a name, a face, and a story.
