Are you interested in volunteering?
One of our favorite stories is about a 12 year old boy we’ll call Malcolm. Malcolm arrived at the Kids’ Closet with his foster parents and walked in with his head hung down. This young man had never had anything to call his own. Gingerly, he pulled a t-shirt with a shark on it to try on. When he emerged from the dressing room in a colorful shirt he selected for himself, he was beaming from ear to ear! The transformation was remarkable and it was clear Malcolm understood: he was loved and valued.
If you’d like to be a part of incredible moments like the one with Malcolm, there are several ways to share your time and talent with Ambassadors for Children! Whether you can dedicate a couple hours or a full day, we have something for you.
How to get involved with Ambassadors for Children
Adopt a unit
A family, couple, church, office, organization, or small group can “adopt” a local unit of caseworkers serving foster children! You will communicate directly with a child’s caseworker to provide for their needs as you are able. Typical requests from caseworkers include mattresses and bedroom furniture needed to complete a placement, Christmas gifts, self-esteem enhancing items and activities for youth. Do you have a gift for bargain hunting? Organizing? Teaching? We always need help shopping for clothes and organizing them in the Kids’ Closet. If you love to teach, tutors are welcome and will be asked to meet with kids at a public place about once a week. Volunteers are also needed in the office to help with reception, paperwork and we always welcome help with our special events!
Host a collection drive
Host a collection drive at your office or church to collect items for the Pack-a-Bag program: new children’s clothing, stuffed animals and more! Contact us to find out what we need the most and join us to help brighten a child’s day.
Contact our office to learn more about planning a special collection, event, or other way to serve abused and neglected children!
